Lucinda Williams Self Titled Album

Postby ParkerCA on Wed Sep 26, 2007 2:16 pm

Has anyone heard if they are going to re-release this album? I heard somewhere where it is out of print.
They should give it the deluxe treatment like Car Wheels..

I haven't heard of another re-release (there was one in 1998 on Koch Records that included 5 bonus tracks), but I sometimes see a copy pop up on eBay if you are looking for one. Some diligent Googling might find you a copy somewhere else as well, but it might be pricey...

Thanks, I have a copy of the re release with the 5 bonus tracks. It just seems strange they would take it out of print and not re release it in an expanded format.

The CD and LP usually go for about 30 bucks on ebay. I bought the LP about a year ago for close to 40.

lucinda mentioned this problem in her 9/26 show at the Keswick Theatre. She said she wanted to see the album re-released, but they weren't doing it and would not sell the rights back to her... She threw up her arms and said something dismissive about the "music business".

Wow, that really is dissappointing. That album is fantastic.

The Lucinda Williams ST album or the "Rough Trade" record as she refers to it (from its original label) will be re-issued next year, probably in some type of deluxe form. The license with Koch expired and she does own all the rights to it.

Inside Job: that is great news, indeed! Thanks for the correction and update. (Did i misunderstand what she said in Pennsylvania? She made some comment on the frustration of the music business and the album being out of print. My apologies if I heard it wrong.)

I definitely look forward to getting the deluxe version when it is released.... In the meantime, as an alternative, the LA live recording of that album night is just wonderful. :D

If I am remembering correctly, she makes similar comments on the El Rey "Sweet Old World" CD, but it was about that album, not "Lucinda Williams"...

Yes, last night at the Sweet Old World show she expressed some frustration that it (SOW) is not kept in print all the time. She was hoping to eventually get back the rights to it.

The album's really finally being re-released?

It's got to be the biggest 'frustratingly impossible to find for a reasonable price' albums out there.

We hope to reissue the self-titled album in the spring next year.

You can purchase the S/T LP new on vinyl from a place called lpnow.com . They have both that and the companion Passionate Kisses EP (where those 5 bonus track on the 98 re-release came from). I ordered several from them last year and they were perfect.

Has anyone heard if this album is still going to be re-released this year? Didn't know if the plan had changed with the new album coming out in the fall.
